What is Faith Based Sober Living?
One day the founder of Healthy Choice Ministries, Tanya Johnson, was driving past a small complex of duplexes that were formerly used as crack houses. She asked her passenger as they drove by the duplexes, "What do you see there?" and her passenger replied, "I don't see anything but some abandoned duplexes" and Tanya replies, " I see an Oasis of Recovery from the rat race of drug and alcohol addiction." This divine vision was the seed of foundation for We Care Outreach Outreach.
We Care Outreach was established to teach people with an addiction problem that recovery from alcohol an drugs is possible through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Philippian 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Our residents are required to attend church on Sunday. On Monday night they attend Over comers ( a Christian 12 step recovery meeting.) On Wednesday night they attend Bible Study. The residents are monitored closely. They are on a probationary period of 30 days when they first arrive. There is a curfew that they have to follow and they are given periodic drug and alcohol tests to assure that they are remaining clean and sober.
We offer them a safe haven away from the environment of drugs and alcohol, but more importantly they are taught the principles of Christian love. Matthew 10:32 says, "You shall love the Lord your God with all Your heart, with all your mind and with all your soul. This is the first and great commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Romans 12:2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of god." This "renewing of the mind:" that the Apostle Paul speaks of is the gift of recovery that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has to give to anyone who wants it. This ministry belongs to Him.
